Jennifer Garner, born April 17, 1972, in Houston, Texas, was born within Charleston West Virginia. William John Garner served as an engineer for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local college. She earned a degree in chemical engineering to emulate her father. In order to achieve her dream of becoming an actor, she moved in New York. While appearing in Broadway shows, she worked as a waitress. She played a minor role on "Felicity" (where she first came into contact with Scott Foley). Garner made her mark with the romantic comedy "13 Going on 30" in which she portrayed a teenager trapped in an adult's body. Garner decided to hire Gary Winick (director) to direct the film. The two looked for projects that could be made before Winick's passing in 2011. In 2009, Garner was named an artist ambassador for Save the Children U.S.A. In addition to promoting the importance of early education, literacy and nutrition at the local level, the role of Garner involves promoting the literacy of all Americans. From 2014 onwards, Garner has been a part of the board of trustees for this group, promoting early learning for children. As a spokesperson, she travels often with the families who participate in Early Steps to School Success which is a program designed to guide parents on how to help youngsters in their learning.
