Laura Linney is an American actress who is famous for her portrayal of powerful but fragile characters. Her father was a renowned playwright. However, she was raised as an only child by a single mom and nurse. During the summers and with her father Linney was able to develop a passion for theatre. Her first stage experience was initially through Brown University then at Juilliard School. In just two short years after graduation, she launched her Broadway-based career. In the following year, she made her debut in TV and film. Her appearances have been in a variety of film, TV and stage productions since then. In her long career, she's won many awards, which include two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. In spite of the array of awards the theatre is still her first love and she has continued to appear both on screen and on stage.
